Compress Image
Shrink JPG, PNG and WebP images so they upload, send and load faster — the format stays the same.
How to compress an image
- Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image from your device.
- Set the quality — lower gives a smaller file.
- Press Compress image.
- Check the preview and size saved, then download.
- PNGs are compressed by reducing them to a smaller colour palette, which works best for graphics and screenshots.
- If the image can't get any smaller, you'll get the original back.
Compress Image: frequently asked questions
How do I reduce an image size in KB?
Choose your JPG, PNG or WebP image, set a quality (lower means smaller) and press Compress image. The result shows the new size so you can try a lower quality if you need it smaller.
How do I compress an image to 100 KB, 50 KB or 20 KB?
Start with a quality around 60. If the result is still too big, compress again with a lower quality such as 40 or 30. For very small targets, cropping the image first also helps.
Does compressing change the image format?
No. A JPG stays a JPG, a PNG stays a PNG and a WebP stays a WebP. To change format as well, use one of the converters.
Will my image lose quality?
Compression is lossy, but at quality 60–80 most photos look the same to the eye. If the image cannot be made smaller, you get the original back.
