DNS Lookup: frequently asked questions
How do I check the DNS records of a domain?
Enter the domain and press Look up DNS records. You will see every A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS, TXT, SOA and CAA record with its TTL.
Which DNS server is used?
Lookups go live to Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8), so you see current public records rather than a cached copy on this site.
Why don't I see a record I just changed?
DNS servers may keep the old value until its TTL runs out. Wait for the previous TTL to pass, then look up the domain again.
How do I find the MX (mail) records for a domain?
Look up the domain and check the MX rows. They list the mail servers that receive email for it, lowest priority number first.
Where can I see SPF, DKIM and DMARC records?
SPF is a TXT record on the domain itself. For DMARC look up _dmarc.yourdomain.com, and for DKIM look up selector._domainkey.yourdomain.com, using the selector your email provider gave you.
What does TTL mean?
TTL (time to live) is how many seconds DNS servers may cache a record before asking again. Lower TTLs make changes spread faster.
