CSV to Excel: frequently asked questions
How do I convert a CSV file to Excel?
Upload the .csv file or paste the CSV text, keep "Detect automatically" for the delimiter and press Convert to Excel. Download the .xlsx file and open it in Excel or Google Sheets.
Why do my leading zeros disappear when I open a CSV in Excel?
Excel treats values like 007001 as numbers and drops the zeros. This converter keeps any value with leading zeros, and any number longer than 15 digits, as text so nothing is lost.
My CSV uses semicolons. Will it work?
Yes. Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe separators are detected automatically, or you can choose one.
Why does Hindi or Tamil text look garbled?
That happens when Excel opens a UTF-8 CSV with the wrong encoding. Converting to .xlsx fixes it, because Excel files always store text correctly.
