Strong Password Generator

Create strong, random passwords with letters, numbers and symbols. Choose the length, see how strong each one is, and make up to 50 at once.

Include

5 passwords

Very strong · 103 bits
16 characters each, from a pool of 87. Every password has at least one of each kind you ticked.

Is it safe?

  • Passwords are made on our server with a cryptographically secure random generator, sent to you over HTTPS, and never stored or logged.
  • Only your settings (length, character kinds) are in the page address, not the passwords.
  • Use a different password for every account, and keep them in a password manager.
  • 80 bits or more is very strong: 16 random characters from all four kinds gives about 104 bits.

Password Generator: frequently asked questions

How long should a password be?

At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts. A 16-character password using all four kinds of character has about 103 bits of entropy, which is very strong.

Is it safe to generate a password online?

These passwords are made with a cryptographically secure random generator, sent over HTTPS, and never stored or logged. Only your settings appear in the page address, not the passwords.

What does "leave out look-alikes" do?

It removes characters that are easy to confuse, such as I, l, 1, O, 0 and o, which helps when you have to type or read the password out.

What is password entropy?

Entropy measures how hard a password is to guess, in bits. Each extra bit doubles the guesses needed. Under 40 bits is weak; 80 or more is very strong.
